Beach Holiday Fiji Guide

Relaxing cruise holiday - photo credit:Tui Tai Adventure Cruises

Ah, so you're a lover of beaches! You have come to the right page ... and the right country. Fiji beach holidays can be found throughout the islands. You've seen the white sand beaches in all the magazines and TV commercials. It's interesting to remember that beaches in Fiji vary from place to place.

  • For the largest amount of fine white sand beaches and blue lagoons, check out the Mamanuca Islands, the Yasawa Islands. However, white sand beaches can be found elsewhere so do not disregard some of the other lovely regions of Fiji
  • Black sand beaches can be found in Fiji, such as certain parts of Taveuni (which also has white-golden beaches) and parts of the main island (Viti Levu).
  • Nadi Bay and surrounding region is not blessed with the fine powder white beaches of the outer islands, and the main tidal beach at Wailoaloa is fairly brown looking. However, it's a great beach for walking, jogging, frisbee throwing and watching some great sunsets! There are few good golden beaches just outside of Nadi such as at First Landing and Anchorage. Denarau beaches have been 'groomed' by the international hotel chains there so that they are much better than the original natural beach of the past.
  • On the main island of Viti Levu, the beaches along the Coral Coast are slightly gritty with coral but white. Two of the best is at Mango Bay Resort, and The Wellesley Resort. Pacific Harbour has an extensive golden sand beach, while Natadola has a huge arc of white sand beach (no fringing reef here so expect waves, with surfing opportunities. The north of the main island is rather bereft of beaches, but try Volivoli Beach Resort up near the island of Nananu-i-Ra (which also has nice white sand beaches).
  • At Sigatoka there are the famous sand-dunes, which are interesting to visit. Some beach surfing here also.
  • In the Savusavu town area there are few local beaches except out by Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort. Further out of Savusavu there are some better beaches, such as at Namale and along the Hibiscus Highway coast.
  • Taveuni has a number of great beaches in and around the Matei area. The beach at Lavena is a beautiful beach also and was a location spot for one of the famous Blue Lagoon movies!
  • Of course, there are many other smaller islands with lovely beaches - Nukubati, Wakaya, Vatulele, and so on.

Fiji Beach Accommodation
If you want to holiday right on the beach, consider a beachfront bure (Fijian thatched hut). These range from local friendly backpacking resorts such as in the Yasawas, to luxury beachfront bures (such as in the Mamanucas and Yasawas). If you are looking for more hotel-style facilities, then consider Denarau in Nadi for International chains, or along the Coral Coast. Want to be self-contained? Then check out private villa rentals in Taveuni, Savusavu or the Coral Coast. In Taveuni try the beachfront cottages at Coconut Grove .. or if you want to you can even camp right on the beach at Beverly's campground down the road! Finally if you want to see as many beaches as possible, a good option is to take a small-ship cruise through the Yasawas - either with Blue Lagoon Cruises or Captain Cook Cruises. A beach lover's delight!
